Colin Fitzgerald has officially signed with the Peterborough Petes, marking a significant milestone in his hockey career.
Fitzgerald, who was the third overall pick in the OHL priority selection draft, brings an impressive track record to the team. With 39 goals and 25 assists for 64 points this past season, Fitzgerald played a pivotal role in leading the U16 Petes to the OMHA Championship and a berth in the OHL Cup.
Standing tall at 6 feet 1 inch, Fitzgerald is known for his versatility as a two-way center and his ability to dominate in all three zones of the ice. His strong skating, quick shot release, and skillful play make him a big threat on the ice.
The signing was announced today by GM Mike Oke, who says Fitzgerald will fit nicely into the Petes organization, praising his size and skill set
Head Coach Rob Wilson echoed Oke’s sentiments, emphasizing Fitzgerald’s work ethic.
As a Peterborough native, Fitzgerald is no stranger to the maroon and white, having played all his hockey in the Petes minor system. He says he suiting up with the big club for the first time, in front of the hometown crowd, will be a dream come true
The 16-year-old says he has a unique style of play, one that is mixed with finesse and physicality
The decision to sign with the Petes was not an easy one for Fitzgerald, who signed a tender agreement with the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers just two days before the OHL draft. He says it gave him a lot to think about over the last few weeks but he’s excited to now be a member of the Petes.
Fitzgerald’s journey to the OHL has been influenced significantly by his parents, Rob and Ashley, who he says helped with his development both on and off the ice.
Relieved that the contract has been signed and he’s now officially a member of the Peterborough Petes, Fitzgerald says he can’t wait to start the next chapter of his hockey journey.
