A group of residents fighting the planned redevelopment of Bonnerworth Park to accommodate 16 pickleball courts, a parking lot and other recreation amenities has mobilized in a big way.
Save Bonnerworth Park is online at savebonnerworthpark.ptbo.org where visitors can sign an online petition as well order a lawn sign. As of this morning, the petition had garnered close to 2300 signatures in just a week.
Richard Scott, who lives on Middleton Drive near the park, says the group’s roots can be traced back to a City-hosted March 21st drop-in session where the scope of the plans for the park were revealed.
Scott says while there’s power in numbers, the power of the group’s argument can’t be underestimated.
Scott adds history has shown that organized protest of policies and plans has paid a dividend.
Although city council has approved the park’s redevelopment, Scott says a number of site studies remain to be done, which may
see the matter go before councillors for another vote before it proceeds.
