Peterborough regional residents were gathered as dozens of their family members, co-workers, local business owners and officials rowed their teams through the finish line and up the shoreline.
69 teams rowed through Little Lake as part of the 23rd annual Dragon Boat Festival in support of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) Foundation. Lesley Heighway, President of Foundation, says she’s always happy to see locals come together to help fundraise for important cancer screening and diagnostic equipment.
Her words come shortly before PTBOToday.ca heard from Festival Chair Michelle Thornton, who was proud to say they raised over $255K, which surpassed their initial goal of $251K.
With that total factored in, Heighway reports that the event has raised $4.2-million dollars for PRHC since its inception. Heighway talks about a recent rise in patients.
The money raised will go towards equipment for the PRHC Foundation.
