With the Ontario government pushing forward on its plan for grocery and convenience stores to sell beer, wine and ready-to-drink cocktails come the fall, one Peterborough grocer says he’s not onside.
Dave Morello, the owner of Morello’s Independent Grocer, says while the ultimate decision lies with his parent company Loblaw, he feels the LCBO does a very good job of handling sales already and that’s good enough.
Morello adds, however, that if Loblaws mandates that his store jump on board and proceed with the sale of alcohol, he’ll comply.
Morello says he has had no indication of Loblaw’s plan for its affiliated stores as the roll-out date of October 31st draws closer.
Morello’s is located close to an LCBO outlet – something that Morello says is another factor in his pushback against alcohol sales in his store.
