The Peterborough Lakers opened their postseason last night with a convincing 12-5 win over the Owen Sound North Stars in Game 1 of their best-of-five quarter-final series.
The Lakers showcased a strong offensive performance, with Thomas Hoggarth leading the charge with 3 goals and 2 assists. Joe Resetarits played the role of setup man for most of the night, picking up 7 assists along with a goal. Owen Hiltz had a strong game as well, with a goal and 4 assists, while Rob Hellyer and Turner Evans each scored 2 goals, with Hellyer also adding 2 assists and Evans 1. Austin Hasen, Dylan Hutchison, and Colton Armstrong rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Peterborough’s defense was equally impressive, shutting out Owen Sound 7-0 in the second period, their strongest 20 minutes of the game. The North Stars had a strong push in the third period, outscoring the Lakers 4-2, but Peterborough’s 10-1 lead going into the third was too large for a comeback.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for tomorrow night at 7pm in Owen Sound.
