Emergency crews responded to a plane crash at Catchecoma Lake.
At approximately 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, Peterborough County OPP received reports of a small plane that had crashed into the lake in the Municipality of Trent Lakes. First responders, including police, fire, and EMS, were dispatched to a local marina near County Road 507, where the two occupants of the plane had been brought to safety.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the aircraft attempting to land on the water. However, upon contact with the lake’s surface, the plane flipped. Bystanders acted quickly, making their way to the crash site and assisting both the pilot and the passenger to shore. Thankfully, neither individual sustained injuries.
The aircraft sank into the lake, which is reported to be over 100 feet deep. A local marina has been contacted to assist with recovering the submerged plane.
Transport Canada and the Ministry of the Environment have been notified of the incident.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
