With the fall harvest season again upon us, Peterborough County and its partners are urging motorists to have patience when they come upon a slow-moving farm vehicle.
The annual Share The Road campaign has both the OPP and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture urges that farm vehicles be given a wide berth, reminding that drivers who attempt to pass in an unsafe manner risk causing serious accidents and/or face a fine of $490 and six demerit points.
Asphodel-Norwood deputy mayor Lori Burtt is among those urging patience and caution on the part of drivers.
Burtt reminds that farm vehicle operators do try to move to the shoulder when it’s safe to do so but that isn’t always possible.
Burtt says local roads are part of a farmer’s workplace and respect must be shown them as go about their job.
Burtt adds that those who have recently moved to the region from an urban setting could really benefit from the Share The Road message.
