As the holiday season approaches, OPP is urging residents to take precautions to prevent thefts and break-ins, which tend to rise during this busy time of year. Media Relations and Community Safety Officer, Constable Craig Soldan, has a reminder for everyone.
He advises people to reduce opportunities for theft by keeping items like purses, wallets, and shopping bags out of sight.
At home, porch thefts are a growing concern as delivery services drop off packages. Constable Soldan recommends leaving clear delivery instructions, having a neighbor collect packages, or investing in a video surveillance system.
With holiday shopping in full swing, Soldan also warned about the risk of advertising expensive purchases by leaving boxes at the curb for recycling.
Simple measures like outdoor lighting can also make a big difference. Soldan urged residents to check for dark areas around their homes and ensure all entry points, such as windows and patio doors, are secure.
With a little preparation and caution, everyone can enjoy a safer holiday season.
