A seasonal memorial to those who have died as result of substance use is returning to Peterborough Square in the form of two specially decorated Christmas trees.
Gail Parry, a member of Moms Stop The Harm, a network of Canadian families that advocates for change around failed substance use strategies and polices, has put a tree up in the mall since 2019. This year, there are again two trees – one that was purchased via cash donations and another that was donated by Chemong Home Hardware.
Parry says both trees, decorated with bulbs adorned with photos of those lost, will go up December 2nd near the mall’s food court and remain in place until the end of the month.
Parry says the annual tribute is a fitting way to honour not only her daughter Jody but all those who have been lost.
Parry says the memorial trees fill up very quickly with bulb tributes.
