COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Fireworks to light up Omemee’s night sky on New Year’s Eve

A New Year’s Eve tradition in Omemee returns tonight this weekend, lighting up the night sky with fireworks.

Peterborough-based Supernova Fireworks is presenting the display with the help of a number of business sponsors. Founder and owner Matthew Hutchinson says the display starts at 8 p.m. at Omemee Beach.

Hutchinson says staging New Year’s Eve fireworks is his way of giving back to the place where he grew up.

Hutchinson says the 8 p.m. start time is chosen with families well in mind.

Hutchinson says that while firework displays are typically associated with Victoria Day and Canada Day, the arrival of a new year is worthy of a like celebration.
