The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board has announced that its 2024 United Way campaign raised $59,893 to support local United Way organizations.
Funds were collected through payroll donations and a range of creative school-based fundraising events, including pumpkin carving contests, soup sales, dress-down days, and even “put-your-principal-to-work” raffles. The initiatives showcased the exceptional generosity of PVNC Catholic staff and students, highlighting their commitment to the well-being of their communities.
“Housing, food insecurity, domestic violence—these are the types of issues that often keep our staff up at night because they see the need firsthand in our schools and communities,” said Galen Eagle, the Board’s United Way campaign chair. “It’s incredibly empowering to witness the way our staff rally together to address these challenges through our annual United Way campaign. Their dedication to supporting United Way programs is a reflection of their deep care for our students, families, and neighbours.”
Stephen O’Sullivan, Director of Education for PVNC Catholic, praised the efforts, emphasizing the campaign’s alignment with Catholic values. “The generosity of our staff speaks volumes about the social justice spirit that defines our Catholic schools,” said O’Sullivan. “Rooted in Catholic Social Teachings, our school communities embrace the call to care for the vulnerable and build a just society. This campaign is a testament to the compassion and faith-driven commitment of everyone at PVNC Catholic.”
The funds raised will support United Way Peterborough and District, United Way Northumberland, United Way Durham Region, and United Way for the City of Kawartha Lakes. These organizations deliver essential services such as food security programs, mental health supports, housing initiatives, and youth programming, all of which are vital to strengthening local communities.
This year’s campaign continues PVNC Catholic’s long-standing tradition of championing social justice and fostering a spirit of giving that positively impacts the region.
