YWCA Peterborough Haliburton is accepting applications for a long-established bursary that helps women who have experienced gender-based violence reach their goals via education or training.
Since 1998, the Hazel Education bursary has honoured its namesake’s vision of helping women pursue their dreams while overcoming barriers related to their experiences with violence and abuse. After Hazel passed away in 1996, her friends and admirers of her giving spirit created the bursary in her honour.
YWCA executive director Kim Dolan met Hazel some 30 years ago and remembers her as a formidable force who overcame her own experience with abuse to effectively advocate for other women.
