The Peterborough Jr A Lakers are gearing up for an exciting season as the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) officially released the 2025 schedule this week.
Coming off a strong 2024 campaign that saw them reach the semifinals before falling to the Mimico Mountaineers, the Lakers are eager to take the next step toward capturing the OJLL title and a shot at the prestigious Minto Cup, Canada’s junior lacrosse championship.
The season kicks off on the road with an opening game against the Whitby Warriors on May 20 at 7:30 PM at Iroquois Park. However, the spotlight shines brightest on the Lakers’ home opener, set for May 26 at 8:00 PM at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (PMC), where they’ll face off against the Oakville Buzz in what promises to be an electrifying start to their home slate.
Head Coach Robert Hope expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season and the home opener in particular. “We’re thrilled to get back on the floor at the PMC in front of our incredible fans,” Hope said. “Facing Oakville on May 26 is a fantastic way to kick things off at home. Our guys are hungry after last year’s playoff run, and we’re building toward something special this season.”
The 2025 schedule features a 20-game schedule, with 10 home games at the PMC, giving Lakers faithful plenty of opportunities to cheer on their team. Key home matchups include a May 30 battle with longtime rivals, the Six Nations Arrows, and a June 30 rematch against the Mimico Mountaineers, who ended the Lakers 2024 season. The Jr A Lakers will face the Warriors in their final home game on July 7 before wrapping up their regular season on July 10 with a road tilt against the 2024 OJLL champion Orangeville Northmen.
“Our focus is on taking it one game at a time, but that home opener against Oakville is circled on our calendar,” Hope added. “It’s a chance to set the tone for the season and show our fans what this team is capable of.”
The Peterborough Jr A Lakers have long been a cornerstone of the OJLL, blending a rich tradition with a commitment to developing top-tier talent. With the 2025 schedule now set in stone, the team is poised to chase championship glory and bring the Minto Cup back to Peterborough.
