The Big Flip - A Furniture Flipping Contest for Earth Day
Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region, in partnership with Chemong Home Hardware Building Centre, is thrilled to announce the return of The Big Flip, a community-driven furniture-flipping contest in celebration of Earth Day. Following last year's success – with 46 participants transforming furniture and over 1,900 community votes cast – this year’s competition promises even more creativity and environmental impact. The Big Flip challenges participants to transform a used furniture piece, preventing waste and giving items a fresh, new life. Participants are encouraged to find their used item at the Habitat ReStore and then must document their transformation with three photos: before, during, and after the flip. Key Contest Details: • Submission Period: March 7 – April 30, 2025, at http://www.thebigflip.ca • Voting: May 1 – May 8, 2025 • Categories & Prizes: o Big & Bold (Large furniture like dressers, bedframes, desks, couches, and coffee tables; winner determined by public votes) Prize: $500 Chemong Home Hardware Building Centre gift card, $100 Habitat ReStore gift card, and a Peterborough Tool Library membership o Small but Mighty (Smaller projects like stools, wall hangings, lamps, and chairs; winner chosen by Chemong Home Hardware staff) Prize: $250 Chemong Home Hardware Building Centre gift card, $50 Habitat ReStore gift card, and a Peterborough Tool Library membership This fun and meaningful contest encourages sustainability, creativity, and community engagement. Whether participants flip for fun or for prizes, The Big Flip is a chance to transform sustainably! "The Big Flip is a great way to celebrate Earth Day while inspiring creativity and sustainability," says Susan Zambonin, CEO of Habitat PKR. "By giving old furniture new life, participants help reduce waste and support Habitat ReStores' environmental impact. We’re excited to see this year’s incredible transformations and the community engagement it brings!" For contest details, entry information, and voting instructions, visit http://www.thebigflip.ca.

Oak Ridges Moraine Adventure Relay
The Oak Ridges Moraine Adventure Relay will be making its return on JUNE 7, 2025!
The organizing committee has been hard at work with planning. We have already received a large volume of interest from participants, volunteers, and property owners, including a partnership with Trail Hub to serve as a checkpoint and "mid-race hub" for participants and supporters to organize and socialize between stages. While specific route details are still being finalized, we are planning to hold the race along much of the same route as in years past, starting on Rice Lake in the east and finishing in York Region in the west. Our race information page will be live soon, with registrations opening in the new year.
Thank you to all who have indicated volunteer support already. If you'd like to volunteer and haven't filled out our volunteer interest form yet, we would love to hear from you.
Any questions or comments can be sent to relay@oakridgestrail.org
We hope to see you on June 7!
